Note: WikipediaVision was my little project started back in 2007 that displayed a real-time map of edits to Wikipedia. Whenever someone would edit an article, a little popup would show up on the world map, indicating which article was edited from where. The internet (and the world) was a simpler place back in 2007 and it was easy and fun to put together a mashup like this using public sources. Many people have found WikipediaVision interesting or inspiring and I made many new connections thanks to it, for which I am thankful. (see e.g. here, here, here, here or here). That someone could so easily create and maintain a simple hobby project like this that would reach so many people felt empowering, and was (to me) what made the internet so great back then.
After keeping it running uninterrupted for 15+ years, unfortunately I no longer find the time to do so. Although the real-time information from wikipedia is still available in much the same way, it has become harder for me to keep up with changes in map APIs, with workable solutions for geolocation, and quite frankly, with web technology on the whole. Thus, WikipediaVision is no longer running. Sorry about it, and wishing you a nice day! LK, 2023.
